Photos for your website: what to shoot and what to avoid

Which photos build trust on a funeral home website, and which are better left out.

Photos on your website say a lot about your business before anyone reads a word. The good news: you don’t need an expensive shoot, just care with a few things.

What to photograph

  • Your premises and entrance, so people recognise them in person
  • Your team, if you are comfortable with it, in a calm and natural setting
  • Your vehicles, clean and photographed in daylight
  • Your chapel or farewell room, if you have one
  • Products, if you offer them: wreaths, urns, flowers, on a neutral background

What to avoid

  • Photos of the deceased or of families without explicit consent
  • Dark, gloomy shots and heavy symbolism
  • Random photos from the internet: they break copyright
  • Blurry phone shots in poor light

Technical tips

  • Shoot in daylight, without flash
  • Landscape shots for the website, portrait for social media
  • Upload photos at a sensible size; the website will optimise them
  • Add a short description (alt text) for people using screen readers

If you don’t have suitable photos, a website can still look good with illustrations and calm typography, as in our demo concepts.
