How we work

From drawing to fixing

It usually takes three to six weeks from approving the proof to fixing the memorial. We check each stage with you.

  1. Design

From a photo, a sketch or a catalogue design, we draw the memorial with its sizes, stone and the layout of the wording.

    1–3 working days
  2. Proof and permit

You receive a proof to check. Once you approve it in writing, we apply to the cemetery or churchyard for the memorial permit.

    As long as you need
  3. Lettering

The stone is cut and finished in our workshop. Letters are cut by hand or sandblasted, and gilded if you wish.

    2–5 weeks
  4. Fixing

We agree a date with the cemetery, lay the foundation and fix the memorial. You receive photographs once it is in place.

Stone

Choosing the right stone

The stone decides the look, the upkeep and the price. Some churchyards also limit the stone and finish, so we check the rules before you choose.

Granite

The hardest and most durable choice. A polished face keeps its shine for decades and the lettering stays crisp. Polished black granite is not allowed in every churchyard.

Marble

Light, with a soft grain and natural veining. It weathers gently over the years, so we suggest a clean once a year.

Limestone

A warm, natural stone that suits simple shapes and hand-cut letters, and is often preferred in churchyards. It is softer, so we cut the lettering deeper.

Questions

What families often ask

If your question is not here, give us a call. We are happy to talk it through.

When can a memorial be put up?

Usually once the ground has settled, six to twelve months after the funeral. Until then we can place a temporary marker with the name.

Do we need permission from the cemetery or church?

Yes. Cemeteries ask for a memorial permit, and churchyards have their own rules on size, stone and finish. We check them and make the application for you.

What does the guide price include?

The memorial, its foundation, up to 40 letters and fixing within the county. Permit fees, photo engraving, gilding and travel further afield are quoted separately.

Can we see the design before we pay?

Yes. You receive a proof with the dimensions and wording. We only ask for a deposit once you have approved it.
